🛍🛍🛍 Paying Retail is overrated

The best style tip I can offer: if you like it, wear it! I strongly believe you can make anything work to your advantage if you rock it with confidence (see youtube video below). I do not like going with current “trends” when it comes to fashion as I personally see the world as my runway and feel that clothes and the way you dress is a form of art. As an artist you make the rules.

For instance, you will often find me wearing a mixture of luxury brands and thrifted finds with different patterns and colors. I do not believer that you should break your budget when you shop especially not to keep up with said “trends”. However, I do believe that owning classic pieces will make your wardrobe pop drastically and elegantly giving you a more signature look (thank you @voguemagazine for always providing me with inspiration).

Example one: In the 📸 above the blue shirt and pants are both thrifted. They cost me a bargain total of $10 and guess what? NO ONE WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT ( well now except whoever reads this lol). The point is that fashion is truly about “style” and how you choose to make it your own. I hit the streets with this $10 outfit and actually got loads of compliments on it!!

Example two: above I am wearing an empowering T shirt from a company that gives back to charity costing $25 (and a support of a good cause), a skirt I purchased on sale for $11, and a classic Burberry jacket from a consignment shop that I purchased for a bargain price of $500 (as you may or may not know retail Burberry jacket prices can be quit outrageous some costing well over $1,000).

Example three: This is for the DIY decorators who seek stunning pieces. As a travel nurse who can often relocate I can find myself in new spaces which is why I don’t want to splurge on decorating expensively. BUT I do like to make my home beautiful and elegant looking. The biggest rule as a traveler is to not add debt by breaking the bank on decorations. So I turn to local mom and pop thrift shops, flee markets, or consignment shops to find pieces that “pop”. (see picture below)

With a little patience and a good eye I was able to find the beautiful items pictured above costing me a total of $45! Compare that to retail companies like Ikea or Crate & Barrel which have pricey items that run up your total with just 2 items!

Moral of the story is, by decorating your dorm or temporary living area with thrifted finds or HomeGoods items instead you will save lots of money while also being creative …talk about retail therapy. So, the next time you want to shop, have a fantastic frugal experience because paying retail is just SO overrated!
